We have had an received several requests for firearms training from people with no requirement to carry a firearm as part of their job / profession.   So by "civilian" we mean anyone who is not or training to be:  armed private security, armed private investigator, or armed bailbonds.

To meet this demand we have expanded our training modules to include civilian firearms training.  Currently we are offering a classroom session and two hours on the range.

We understand that everyone has to start at the beginning.  Firearms can be dangerous to the untrained or the careless.  This class begins with the very basics of firearms handling.  Some of our topics include:

  • The Four Basic Rules
  • Handgun Safety and Responsibility
  • Firearm Parts and Operation
  • Ammunition and how it Operates
  • Shooting fundamentals and an opportunity to develop them
  • How to select, clean and store a firearm
  • Basics of grip
  • Stances
  • Drawing from the holster
  • Sight picture
  • Trigger Control
  • Reloads and malfunction clearing

We teach these basics at our certification course and at all weapons training.  The basics are the foundation of proper weapons handling and manipulation.

1.  When handling a firearm treat it as if it is always loaded.  (Prevents mistakes)

2.  Never let the muzzle cover anything that you are not willing to destroy.

3.  Keep your finger off the trigger and indexed along the slide until your sights are on the target and you are ready to fire.

4.  Be sure of your target and what is behind and beyond it.

Students will learn to understand the basic principals of firearms.  The total training time is between 6-8 hours, including both range and classroom time.

We use the model of, "learn, crawl, walk, run", meaning we move to the next level of training when the basics are learned and can be performed.  Students begin with a understanding of the safe handling of firearms through the use of a non-functional replica of a weapon, which is referred to as a "blue" or "orange" gun.

We can guide you through purchasing the proper gear.  We are able to rent you gear for a limited number of students at an additional cost.

If you are bringing your own gear the list is:

  • Concealed weapons permit.  We do train law abiding citizens, so by obtaining your concealed weapons permit it certifies that local law enforcement has run a background check on you.  This is the most cost effective way.  We can run a background check but if you decide to carry you will need the permit anyway.
  • Reliable handgun (.380 or larger)
  • Magazine or speedloader pouch
  • Two magazines or speedloaders (min)
  • 100 rounds of jacketed ammunition
  • Rigid belt holster
  • Eye protection (Ballistic Rated)
  • Ear protection
  • Long sleeve shirt
  • Baseball cap

We all have heard the risks involved due to the ingestion of lead, whether it be toys or paint on the window sills.  There is risk of ingestion of lead while shooting firearms.  In order to midigate that risk there are several things, we as shooters, can do.  We will cover it more in detail during class but a few quick items are:

  • Shoot at an Outdoor Range
  • If indoors; proper ventilation and proper collection of the projectiles down range using a flow of water will reduce lead exposure.
  • Wash hands, forearms, & face before eating or putting anything in your mouth.  There is no eating or drinking on the range.  During breaks we will all wash prior to the break.
  • Wear a hat to keep a majority of the lead out of your hair
  • Wash your hair
  • Eat, drink, and smoke off the range
  • Blow your nose after firing
  • Wash clothing as soon as possible
  • Keep brass out of your hat and mouth

Olympia, Washington, but we are able to travel to other ranges throughout the State.

Due to the type of training, we do not have to have a pre-approved range that will accept the testing requirements of the Washington State Criminal Justice Commission.

  • 1 Student = $400 (GREAT price for private instruction)
  • 2 -6 Students = $200 each person
  • In the interest of safety, the Civilian Firearms Class is limited to three students on the range.  To ensure a one on one instruction the classroom is limited to six students to ensure that each student receives the individual attention necessary to ensure success.
  • If a class has six students, all six students will attend the classroom training together and the range session will be broken into two groups.  This will add 2 hours to the class for the second group, which means a longer lunch or you are welcome to observe on the range.

If circumstances force you to cancel your class 50% is refundable.  Classes are much like a concert or sporting event, the instructor and all the associated fees must be paid even if no one comes to the class.

Although we do not like last minute changes to our schedule, and we know you don't either, we do reserve the right to cancel any class in the event of an emergency.  Of course, refunds will be issued. Please know that we will always do our best to accommodate you.

If we use a firing range outdoors, please dress appropriately for the weather.  If indoors please ensure you dress in layers, some ranges are cool.

Prior to the class you are sent a liability waiver to ensure that you have plenty of time to review it.  It is a standard waiver, but please read it so that if you have questions you can ask us or your legal adviser.
