Per Washington State Law, personnel interested in becoming Armed Security Guards / Investigators / Bail Recovery must undergo training and testing by a CJTC Certified Weapons Instructor.  Reference the CJTC_Website

The Hamblen Group specializes in testing for handguns.  Testing is in compliance with Washington State Laws and conforms with the Washington State Criminal Justice Center.  Upon completion of this 8 hour block of instruction and handgun testing, the guard / officer / agent  is eligible for the armed license endorsement.

Location(s):    Training is available from Longview to Seattle. We are able to conduct the class at most ranges, but prior coordination will have to be made to ensure that we can conduct the firing portion of the test at that range.

Minimum Training / Testing time is 8 hours.  Training consists of the required classroom portion, written test, and weapons qualification on the Range.  Students must come prepared to safely fire their company issued weapon.   Firearms training is not conducted during this session as it is a testing session.  Firearms training can be provided prior to starting this 8 hour block of instruction at an additional cost.

Washington CJTC Training Manual (PDF)(Opens in new Window)

At times the CJTC website does go down or is slow in responding.  A copy of the document is given to each student during class and we teach directly from that manual, so it is not a requirement to bring it with you.  This link is provided to students who like to read ahead.

  • Minimum of 50 rounds per weapon fired.  50 rounds are required for testing and generally we like students to fire 10 warmup rounds prior to the test so 60 rounds is recommended, but this is optional.   Since we do allow re-testing, based on the student shooting safely ($50 per retest), it is recommended to bring an additional 50 rounds.
  • Minimum of three magazines (semi-auto) or quick loaders (revolver)
  • Ballistic Eye Protection
  • Hearing Protection
  • Company owned weapon or the weapons type you will be carrying on the job.  For example if you qualify with a Glock 22 during the test you are able to carry any Glock 22 on duty.
  • Rigid belt holster; No shoulder holsters;  inside pants holsters must be rigid enough to remain open
