One of The Hamblen Group's main missions is providing security officers to protect sites.  In order to provide the client with the best possible service our officers are trained and developed in excess of Washington State's requirements for Security Guards.

In many occupations the professional is required to continue their education regularly, from the time they finish their initial training until the day they retire.  In the security field there is no central national body that certifies security officers.  We strongly believe that you cannot have an effective and productive security officer without formal continued education.  Security officers must be challenged for many reasons, but without formal schooling they cannot be considered professionals.

Another important reason for formal education is the security field is continually changing.  Changes in technology and best practices change and so should the officers that support the client's in order to support the client's best interests.

  • Training  is defined as "the process of teaching or learning a job
  • Development is defined as, "the process of changing and becoming larger, stronger, or more impressive, successful, or advanced, or of causing somebody or something to change in this way"
  • Continuing Education is defined as, "regular courses or training designed to bring professionals up to date with the latest developments in their particular field"

  • First we train our officers.   This is a straight forth method that combines the use of lecture, hands-on, and the adult learning method.  Training continues until the tasks are accomplished to our exacting standards.
  • Second we develop our officers.  We encourage our officers to go beyond their basic training.  We give the officer room to grow and specialize.    We offer a variety of courses in order to provide a consent challenge to employees and to give them a way to grow professionally.
  • Lastly we have continuing education.    We encourage and require that employees  continue their education.   We provide courses within the security scope, but additional we provide the opportunity to attend college courses.  We also strive to involve employees in the day to day processes of the Company.  We accomplish this by quarterly "round table" meetings.  We can all learn from other officers experiences and a formal discussion is vital to ensure effective understanding.

Example 1:  Our First Aid training goes well above the industry standard.  All employees are certified, first in Basic CPR (Adult, Child, & Infant), then certified in CPR for the Professional Responder.  This certification is generally for First Responders.  We believe that our officers should be highly trained.

Example 2:  Our initial security officer training is twice the required State standard.  We have instructors that present the material and use the "adult learning method" to instruct our officers.  This uses auditory, visual, and hands on methods (Hear, See, Do).

Example 3:  We established the "round table" meeting style.  At this time we discuss what has been working and what needs to change within the Company and how we implement our services.  In addition we have guest speakers present in order to maintain a variety of opinions and styles.  This enables the Company to use the latest ideas and to remain fresh and flexable with an influx of new ideas and concepts.  We involve ALL of our employees in this forum.

Example 4:  Where several security firms have libraries we encourage our officers to maintain their own library for professional development by supplmenting the purchase of materials.  In addtion we maintain a library of books to be checked out.

Our security specific training is on-going and we strongly believe that training should continue after hire which provides the officer greater skills and provides our clients with higher skilled service.
